Dil Bechara will obviously always belong to Sushant Singh Rajput – a reminder of a career cut short and loads of potential stymied. On the money all the way, his performance demonstrates exactly why the chops he possessed weren’t ordinary.

Director Mukesh Chhabra and writers Suprotim Sengupta and Shashank Khaitan ensure the narrative flows, taking you through some tender, touching moments between Kizie and Manny and Kizie and her parents. And be prepared for some heartbreaking scenes and dialougues that will definitely bring you to tears.

Dil Bechara should have released much earlier. One of the major delays was caused by the suspension of Chhabra, whose debut directorial this is, in a MeToo allegation. He was cleared and returned to the film, which was supposed to have come out last November. But fate, as they say, willed otherwise.

Setu’s cinematography is splendid and captures Jamshedpur and Paris with panache. Amit Ray and Subrata Chakraborty’s production design is appealing. Watch out for the abandoned dump yard by the lake – it gives a nice touch to the narrative! Natascha Charak and Nikita Raheja Mohanty’s costumes are visually pleasing. Aarif Sheikh’s editing is without complaints.
