This is a monumental ode to hubris. The film, PM Narendra Modi, is an embarrassment, and even if every scene were true, the smugness is cringeworthy. The Constitution of India does not begin with the words ‘I, the person of India…’.

At least not yet.

Whether you believe or don’t believe in the political philosophy of Narendra Modi is secondary, as a film, this one is too lopsided for you to appreciate. It leaves a lot unanswered. While it firmly believes ‘Modi ek insaan nahi, soch hai’, we wish the script was as thoughtful.

It is worth mentioning here that the aforementioned hostile journalist is a stooge of a corrupt industrialist called Aditya Reddy, played by Prashant Narayanan. Three enemies are very clearly marked out by PM Narendra Modi: Pakistan, the news media and, through the medium of the Reddy character, the dark-skinned self-serving south Indian.

The other supporting characters like Zarina Wahab as Modi’s mother and Manoj Joshi as Modi’s biggest support and strategist are serviceable. They aren’t offensive, but nor are they remarkable. If you are a Modi fan, then you are likely to savour this sucrose-fuelled biopic. But if you are a movie fan, then this is no riveting cinema and you may even see red in this saffron-hued utopian tale.

Interestingly, all the killing during the riots is done by Muslim mobs and Hindu mobs are only shown flashing words and sparing the life of a Muslim, who shouts Jai Shri Ram to save himself.

But Modi beats everyone else at their own game with his truth, humility and the support of the people and rises to power.
