The loss of her child, her marriage and her career leaves her psychologically scarred. Her delicate state of mind triggers the onset of anterograde amnesia. She indulges in self-flagellation until she opens up a bloody wound on her forehead. That, overall, is the state of the two-hour film.

The film begins on an adrenaline-pumping note with Aditi Rao Hydari running through the woods, being chased by someone wearing a black hood. Seconds later we see Parineeti Chopra, as Mira Kapoor, standing in a train station with a huge scar on her forehead (that stays with her for most of the runtime but magically disappears in the last few minutes of the film).

In Ribhu’s version of GOTT, the parallel charters are just as impactful and have a seamless way of pushing the plotline forward. For one, as Scotland Yard’s top cop, a turban-clad Kirti Kulhari is ballsy and no-bullshit personified: she brings conviction to the character of Detective Bagga. Likewise, Aditi Rao Hydari, in her brief appearance, is all things nice and normal and a breather from the otherwise dark and warped world of the Kapoors or anyone for that matter. Avinash Tiwary is the former spouse of Mira and a hint of normalcy in her life (or not). The actor, even in his second lead performance, has shown immense range as the abused and abuser.

Parineeti Chopra delivers a brilliant performance and is sure to benefit from this film. She surprises viewers as she has never ventured into this space before and she manages to put up a convincing performance. As a chronic alcoholic, she is quite good. Kirti Kulhari shines with her screen presence and dialogue delivery. Aditi Rao Hydari is lovely and one wishes she had a bigger role, especially since her character is crucial to the plot. Avinash Tiwary is as always dependable. Natasha Benton and Shamaun Ahmed get no scope at all. Same goes for Tota Roy Choudhury (Dr Hamid). Vishakh Vadgama (Kunal; junior police officer), Diljohn Singh (Rajiv), Monisha Hassen (Zehra; Shekhar’s boss) and Suresh Sippy (Mira’s doctor) are okay.
