Vivek Agnihotri’s fairly graphic and explosive film revisits the exodus and its aftermath. Based on documented reports, it shows the brutalities faced by KP’s because of their religion. Be it telecom engineer BK Ganjoo’s murder in a rice barrel, Nadimarg massacre where 24 Hindu Kashmiri Pandits were killed by militants dressed in combat uniforms, or defamatory slogans. The film recreates these real life incidents and we see them through the eyes of an ageing nationalist, Pushkar Nath Pandit (Anupam Kher), his four best friends and his on-the-fence grandson, Krishna (Darshan Kumaar).

Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s direction is fairly nice. Although he has not been able to make a heart-rending human drama with universal appeal, his narration caters beautifully to the class audience. Swapnil Bandodkar’s music is alright. A hit music score would’ve made a lot of difference. Lyrics are not easy on the lips. Rohit Sharma’s background music is quite nice. Udaysingh Mohite does a splendid job of the cinematography. Udai Prakash Singh and Krishna Thakur’s production designing is of a fine standard. Shankh Rajadhyaksha’s editing should’ve been sharper.

Bachchhan Paandey rides squarely on the starry, over-the-top presence of Akshay Kumar. He plays a coldblooded criminal with a heart-breaking backstory that is about as convincing as a snowstorm in the Sahara. He is the undisputed godfather of Baghwa and he thrives on the fear that his name evokes. When a journalist pens a profile of his and uses a cartoonish line-drawing of the criminal’s face to go with the story, the brigand takes it to heart and burns the offender alive.

TheKashmirFiles is the most powerful film on #Kashmir and the genocide and exodus of #KashmiriPandits… Hard-hitting, blunt, brutally honest… JUST DON’T MISS IT.Director #VivekRanjanAgnihotri takes a bold stand [asks uncomfortable questions], hits out at the political machinery [for shutting their eyes and ears] and recreates the massacre and brutality on screen [without whitewashing or suppressing the events].
