Rating: 3/5
“Aghathiyaa” is a visually stunning film that blends historical drama with supernatural elements, offering a unique cinematic experience. Directed by Pa. Vijay, the movie features Jiiva as Aghathiyaa and Arjun Sarja as Siddharthan, a Siddha medicine practitioner. The narrative unfolds across two timelines, exploring themes of love, betrayal, and the power of ancient Indian medicine.
The film’s strength lies in its ambitious storytelling and impressive visual effects. The climactic showdown between Siddharthan and the colonial administrator Duplex is a spectacle of motion-capture animation and 3D effects that impresses despite the increasingly outlandish plot developments. Jiiva delivers a sincere performance, bringing vulnerability and determination to his character.
However, the film struggles with pacing and coherence. The narrative is loaded with many elements, yet nothing engages consistently. The horror elements feel tacked on, and the comedic attempts often fall flat. The film’s ideological confusion and genre-blending make it a challenging watch, but its visual grandeur and committed performances keep it afloat.
Despite its flaws, “Aghathiyaa” offers a high-energy, emotionally charged ride filled with fantasy, adventure, and suspense. It’s a film that demands a suspension of disbelief but rewards viewers with a unique and entertaining experience.

“Aghathiyaa” feels like a dump of many things rather than an engaging tale. The film is campy fun at its best and a dreary commercial at its worst, failing to engage through the entirety with any topic. The narrative is loaded with many elements yet nothing engages, and the climax animated portion is unintentionally funny. Read The Full Review Here.
