Marc Spector manages to get himself out of paradise and back to Earth – and even saves his buddy Steven along the way! After Episode 5’s deep-dive into Marc and Steven’s history, it makes total sense that Marc wouldn’t be able to abandon the persona that protected his psyche from the worst moments of his life. Marvel stans everywhere likely needed a tissue when we got the big moment of Marc literally handing his heart over to a crystalized Steven, giving them both new life with a shared heart (and subsequently a shared mind, as well).

Meanwhile, as Harrow begins his godly genocide in Cairo, Layla is desperate for a way to help Marc, and decides to trust a god who is significantly less likely to betray her: Tawaret. (Smart choice.) The pleasant and upbeat goddess is happy to take Layla as her avatar, and she is gifted powers and a suit of her own, mirroring Tawaret’s godly robes, only with one killer addition: metal wings modeled after those in Ancient Egyptian art, and not dissimilar to those worn by the MCU’s new Captain America Sam Wilson.

And so to the episode. After Harrow shot Marc in Egypt, we had already seen what happened to Marc and Steven in the afterlife. Now we got to see the real version of events from Harrow’s perspective. “I’m sorry it had to be this way, Marc Spector, Steven Grant, whoever else might be in there. Sometimes we need the cold light of death before we can see reality.”
