Politics might be dirty business but Ali and DOP Karol Stadnik showcase it with a glossy sheen. Nothing looks grimy, not even murder. Saif’s ancestral home Pataudi Palace, used here as Samar’s home, becomes a symbol of status and authority. The lifestyle is lavish with close-ups of gleaming whisky glasses, Samar grilling meat on his expansive lawns and a scene between him and his wife in a pool which has no ostensible purpose except to make Saif and Sarah Jane Dias look attractive.

Apart from Saif, she has several lovely moments with the two other sharp, sassy ladies on board — Gauahar Khan and Shonali Nagrani (interestingly both are former Bigg Boss contestants) as they chart the course of their political future on their own terms.

As the tussle for power intensifies, Samar makes a bid to wean Shiva away from his leftist moorings and gain control of the VNU campus where he himself was a student leader many years ago. He enlists the help of a former classmate and a current professor, Jigar Sampath (Dino Morea), in this parallel mission.

To me, Khan seems more genuine whenever he plays negative characters. Maybe he should do more of such roles. Not calling it villainous because it’s not totally black in the first five episodes that were provided for the review purpose. He knows his territory and is continuously evolving as an actor. Isn’t he experimenting more than his contemporaries lately?
